Mindfulness and Tea
During a mindfulness tea session, a Chinese psychologist in Germany mentioned that she wanted to incorporate tea or other sensory elements into therapy. Tea itself is an experience of being present, which is why Daoists and Buddhists often use tea as a medium for cultivation.
To brew a perfect pot of tea requires full attention. One must mind the water temperature, tea type, brewing vessel, and steeping time. Tasting tea demands a slow appreciation of its aroma and changes in flavor. Sometimes the differences between infusions are subtle, but those in a rush will notice nothing at all.
This is where tea aligns perfectly with mindfulness—it brings us back to the present, urging us to engage all our senses rather than letting life’s beauty pass us by.
